M104 Torn VC gasket Oil on Plugs - 1994 wagon

howdy all,

I replaced my VC gasket and two of the little round ones were torn allowing oil in to the SP well. Any suggestions on how to clean that out? Remove the plugs and spin a rag around? As for the wires just wipe them down, use a solvent or what...?

Compressed air, on the plugs you can just wipe them down with some solvent.

I glue my valve gaskets to the valve cover.

If its a quality gasket, nothing else is needed. ALL the aftermarket ones turn hard and seep.

Thank you all for the replies. The replacement gasket kit was a Victor Rentz (SP). The more I get to know my way around the M104 and reading too many forum posts i'll get an OEM next time around.

I don't have a compressor so I just sprayed a solvent (carb cleaner) into the SP well and sopped up the liquid with shop towels. It took a bit of time to get it all cleaned up but it worked.

I've checked the plugs recently and they are dry, no oil, so I'm happy the replacement gasket and the job is complete. This repair was my first real attempt to become a DIY'er. I'm having a blast but I wish my wagon was a better cared for before I purchased. Good thing is i'll know what to look for in future purchases.

Again thank you all.
