How to remove rear view mirror

I tried pulling it straight back as per a utube video bot it will not move. I removed the rubber around the part that attaches to the car to see if there were any screws but no screws. Any suggestion.

it takes a leap of faith... it is spring loaded with two heavy duty springs on each side..

you really have to yank....

You need to grab the stalk and pull it downwards - you can rock it side to side to help get the spring loose.

The spring capsule is in the shape of a buss fuse (pointy style)

Its really tight and you need to pull really hard - but dont worry the stalk can take that sort of pulling.

I sheared the screws off getting mine out. Home depot had ones that worked as replacements. It took a lot of force to get it out.

I got the new one in with a rubber tipped hammer/mallet.

Now opening bottle caps with your teeth will seem like child's play! :)

You know its a MB when it takes all your strength to pull off the mirror. :D In most domestics it just falls off eventually... It fell off in both of my dad's dodge caravans.... :D

hmm - either you were angled incorrectly or the mirror was truly stuck - it should not tax all a man's strength to remove.

I've had to yank hard enough to get them off that I thought I'd break the mirror. I have to be careful I don't collapse the roof downward...unlimited strength. :D :D

The mirror mounts to a "base" which is then screwed on to the vehicle chassis.

If the base is loose, then there is more "give" and it will be more difficult to remove the mirror.

you can collapse an old Mercedes Benz roof inwards with your body strength?

I've heard of people cracking the windshield while doing this one.
