Need Help Removing 500E Grille Insert

I'm having trouble removing the grey grille insert on my 92 500E. I have removed the upper bolts as well as the two upper clips however I believe the whole chrome surround needs to come off. I have also removed the smaller emblem.

I cant find the other bolts holding the chrome surround in place. My car has a rubber trim underneath the hood covering the area and there are black plastic clips holding this rubber trim in place. If these black clips need to be removed how do you do that?

Can anyone help, I already tried a search with no luck.

My goal is to replace the worn chrome trim on the grey insert.

Help!!

For the insert...

1. Remove two top outside grills urround bolts.
2. Remove 4 spring clips from each corner of insert
3. Remove front laurel wreath star.
4. Remove screw from bottom of chrome surround.
5. Wedge insert out of surround.

If you want to remove the whole surround, there are 6 bolts total.

two are visible. the others are hidden under the slightly raised areas ont he underside of the hood. a small ratchet works great to get in there.

The frame will be easy to remove then.

But if you just want to do the insert, you do not have to remove the frame.

While you have the insert out, why net get it coated matt or semi gloss black.

Alon,

THANK YOU!!!!!!

Can't say how much I appreciate the fast response. Now I'll be able to work on this tonight!

By the way I'm already contemplating painting the insert, but I'm steering towards the Avantegard Grille First. We'll see.

Thanks again.

the aftermarket avantgarde inserts from my understanding are not of good construction and crack easily. This is only what I have read before.
