Hi, tks for article, whats the recommended capcity for the floor jacks on a W124?

2 ton is the minimum but more importantly, USE JACK STANDS BEFORE GETTING UNDER THE CAR.

Hydraulic jack seals will pop at the worst possible time.

I am way way too nervous about jacking my W124 from the differential.

Problem is how does one jack from the support pad and then get a jack stand underneath them, unless one used the Merc supplied spare tire jack that fits into the frame jack points?

For oil changes and motor work, I use steel drive-on ramps.

For access to the entire undercariage, after the ramps are in place I use, in addition, jack stands placed under the subframe carrier to chassis mount.

The differential is one of the strongest parts, so I jack the rear from there.

For setting the driveshaft nut and center carriage bearing mount, as the car needs to be on its wheels, I use an additional set of ramps under the rear wheels, placing them by jacking the rear of the car after the front wheels are in place on their ramps. This is only because I don't have 4K or the space for a lift.

I agree that a rubber jack pad or piece of 2x4 are good ideas, however, the front cross member is like that of a truck, so direct contact with the jack dish is fine.
