OVP Questions
I replaced the OVP in my 1991 300CE last week after careful diagnosis from the info on the site.
There is no change to the symptoms. All of the evils that a bad OVP causes, hard starting, rough idle, having to give it the gas to keep from stalling after starting, SRS, dandruff, insomnia, pestulence...., do not go away. Is it possible that I installed a flawed unit? Do these symptoms add up to another diagnosis? I thought the SRS light was a dead giveaway to the OVP. Thanks, Phil |

just a thought - check you regulator/brush pak on your alternator. If your brushes are really worn - you could be getting spurious pulses that may be affecting your electrical.

SRS light could be a clue to having less than 10.1 volts. If alternator or voltage regulator are shot, that could give you an SRS MIL (but so will problems with the SRS system).

Takes five minutes...
to check the regulator. Remove/install regulator by removing/installling two screws in the back of the alternator, check the brushes. If bad, replace (they are cheap).
However, it could be your battery, your alternator or your SRS system itself going bad as previously stated. One more thing, check all your grounds specially around the strut tower. Happy hunting!

When it all boils down, the OVP affects the system by not powering the control units involved. The easiest way to figure this and to truely evaluate the system is to watch the EHA current. If the problem exists, electrically, then it manifests itself through the current control of EHA. If there is no current the first suspect is the OVP. If there is any current, it is not the OVP. Pretty simple.
