Get your self a 2000-2002 Bug-eyed E-Class with some low miles.. Pocket the money, and do not slave-away on a monthly payment for five or so years!

I went with my woman for the same thing earlier this year...The cost of some core parts are VERY expensive compared to the W210 bug eyed E-class..
Each shock assembly is 700 to 800 aftermarket for each(and they fail more common than most) one plus the compressor. It may be in the low four digits...The conductor plate on the 722.9 fix is around $2000, and more than likely a dealer fix, so hold onto your sons wallet...

A bug eyed shocks $100 bucks they are just conventional..Conductor plate fix from a indie shop may cost $500....

You can see the radical price difference...

All the best,

Martin

I'm sure 4matic is good in snow, but Atlanta gets about a quarter inch accumulation about once every three years. I would call that no snow worth speaking of, but when it happens there it shuts the city down to a degree those of us with snow driving experience find somewhere between comical and pathetic. I lived there for a number of years, so I've seen it myself.

My taste in cars has changed over time, as has engine technology. I'd be interested in a diesel, but the gas engines have become a lot more efficient in recent years. With that budget and in that area I would most likely be looking at a slightly used or even new:eek: BMW 3-Series gasser with a manual transmission, but that's just me.

$30K was not the issue to the OP. Whether it's "a lot of money to most folks" wasn't an issue either. He was enquiring about the car, and mentioned the amount of money the son is spending. My comments centered around the car, and it's other drive options, that the $30K would also buy.

Guys - not sure where to post this; I am a diesel guy and that is where I always hang out. My son is buying a 2012 E350. What does 4matic mean? Should I guide him to a 2011 or 2010? Is the 2012 a good year. Have no idea what he should be looking at. He is shopping a pre-owned dealer named Malones in Atlanta and they look pretty reputable to me. Prices are maybe $1-2K below KBB.

RBM is the local new car dealer; I think he should shop them too but he is in a pretty big hurry. I think he will spend about $30K or so.

Advice would be appreciated.

Not familiar with Malone, but RBM? Yes. Clients of mine have reported to me that they have bought several pampered pre-owned MBs from them over the years, and they're very happy with them. I shopped RBM's inventory both in person when in Atlanta, and on-line. They always have very nice trades from what I've gathered over the years. You might check other MB aftermarket forums where there are more owners of the model your son is interested in, besides this one. Good luck to him on finding the MB that he wants!
