Recently purchased a '95 C280 that has constant "check engine light". Independent dealer says needs a new computer/repair. Authorized dealer wants $1300 for a new comp. Would like to know cheapest/best way to get the computer repaired. Since car runs great (81k) don't see need for new one unless repairs are "impossible" which seems unlikely since it is not fried. Authorized dealer told my indep. dealer that he could not swap comp. with a '96 C280 due different climate control system. Thanks

Go to your local dealer and have them pull the codes and give an estimate for repairs. Make sure that the guys who told you it needed a control module were correct! By the way, which control module does it need? DM BM HFM SRS etc...

THE CHECK ENGINE LAMP IS TURNED ON BY A
COMPUTER CALLED "DIAGNOSTIC MODULE". THIS MODULE ACTS LIKE A "SPY" LOOKING FOR PROBLEMS FROM THE FUEL SYSTEM. THIS MODULE WAS TOO SENSITIVE & TURNED THE CHECK ENGINE TOO EASY. THE REPLACEMENT MODULE ISNT AS "SENSITIVE". |
