Spring Compressor

1987 w124. Trying to use the spring compressor I just bought but I'm unable to even get the plates in between the coils with out a hammer. Is there something I'm missing? The suspension is as decompressed as I can get it.

**Delete please. Moved it to diesel technical.**

I should ask, does anyone have a recommendation for a spring compressor. The one I bought is too think to fit between the coils and it's just not going to work. 1987 300d

zorecati, you need a Klann spring compressor to compress the springs safely. You may want to check into renting one.

This is a telescopic spring compressor made for MB.

with my 99 E320 I had lowering springs with denser coil pattern which made it
more challenging to slide in the Klann plates. depending on the overall length
of the spring, it may be possible to lower the lower control arm simply by un-
fastening the pivot bolt and carefully lowering the LCA via a second floor jack.

for the front suspension it was more challenging and I was fortunate enough to
have been able to to push down on the hub just enough to spread the coils a
scooch more and able to slide in the spring compressor plate.

good techniques to learn but i wouldn't recommend this to anyone since safety
is paramount. others on MBWorld and Benzworld have reported having similar
success

Yeah. It could be a lil tight to get the plates between the coils. Just get them on the furthest away from each other as possible and compress the sting from there. Should be enough compression to get the spring out of the way.
