Started from couple of days ago, whenever I accelerate, a cloud of white, smelly smoke came out of the pipes of my 88 300E (110K). I took out all the spark plugs and one of them is oily and blackened. I replaced all of them but the problem still exist.
Any idea? Could the spark plug wires be the culprit? Thanks for any input. Eric |

Don't worry it is most likley to be the valve stem seals. Not a big job to change. j.depledge@virgin.net

I have seen a big problem with the head gaskets on this particular model. It could be that you are in need of a valve job as well. I would have this checked out by a competent technician.

IF THE SMOKE FROM THE EXHAUST HAS A "SWEET"
SMELL, THE HEAD GASKET IS PROBALY LEAKING. YOU SHOULD HAVE SOMEONE PROPERLY TEST THE COOLING SYSTEM & PERFORM A "CYLINDER LEAK TEST". |

I agree with the moderator, I have always been told white smoke = a blown head gasket, meaning you are burning coolant.
And speaking of that, how is the coolant level? |
