Identifying a MB Part by it's Number
I am attempting to organize my parts. Some of which I have had for quite some time and their boxes are not in good shape. So I am sure I will have this challenge again in the near future. How can I identify the purpose and vehicle applicability of a part by it's part number?
Example: The box is not readable. The MB Part Number is quite clear and is stamped: 117 052 0631 If I understand the MB Part numbering system correctly the 117 indicates the part is for automotive and that is all I know. My memory, yeah right, wants me to believe this part has something to do with my 87 560SL. However I would not bet on that and what to do with that vehicle I haven't a clue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Dave H... |
This is quite simple to achieve.
For many parts including 1170520631 google will tell you what it is. For example 1170520631 is a chain tensioner for a M117 engine. However, 'cos you are in the US of A you can get EPC for free - bang in your part number and get a list of vehicles it was used on. Many parts will also start with 123 or 126 or 107 for example which will often indicate body type rather than 117 for an engine type. |

Mercedes Benz Chain Tensioner part number 117 052 0631 So that's probably a clue. RayH |
