1995 e320 running hot
I'm pulling my hair out over this car running hot. As long as your moving, it stays normal, but as soon as there is a load on the engine or a long traffic light, the temp creeps up to 110 and kicks on the aux fans. It has been verified that there is no compression leaking into the coolant, it has a new radiator, 50/50 Mercedes coolant and water, a new fan clutch, and nothing has made a difference. What else would you suspect?

Pull the thermostat housing and look at the thermostat bridge. It was broken on my 97 C280 leaving the valve partly open but never opening far enough to close off the bypass. On cool days it would run slightly cold, hot days a bit warm mostly at idle.
What ever happens, be sure to post the results to help others. |

Have you verified the temperature readings with an IR thermometer?

I've had EVERY problem that one can have with overheating...
There are two W124s in my garage, both are currently normal. #1. Make sure you "burp" your cooling system. Disconnect your upper radiator hose and fill it wth distilled water, preferably while on an incline. #2. Make sure your cooling fans are plugged in properly. My 91 300TE was wired backwards...it can happen! #3. Thermostat...change it. Always have three floating around and anyone can fail and still look like its perfect. #4. Water pump...yep...had one fail. #5. Fan clutch. #6. Do all the easy ones first...its probably one of those. Good Luck!
