My 1999 ML430 brakes come on by themselfs.

My 1999 ML430 will flash the caution triangle on the cluster wile driving,
then the ABS system will apply brakes by themselves. Any one see/hear of anything like this?
Thanks. Jay

The triangle is flashing because traction system thinks a wheel is slipping, make sure all the tires are same diameter, have the system tested with shop sds, could be bad yaw rate sensor

Some cars have what is called BAS ( Brake Assist ) . This looks at the rate of brake peddle application and decides if the driver is intending to make a rapid stop but isn't pushing hard enough.

There might be a problem with this system.

Thanks. Jay

DO you have a check engine light? You can get the basic OBD codes read at Autozone. The steering angle sensor is in the steering column. I wouldn't consider it until you had codes checked.

OK, now we have a clue. For MB, this code relates to communication with the rear wheel speed sensor. It could be the sensor, or wiring to it - see also this post: Could P0720 be related to failure of ESP - Page 4 - Mercedes-Benz Forum

Where is the speed sensor ?
Also I cant understand why the brake light will come on and beep and she will go into limp mode when I just start her up and turn steering wheel all the way one way then all the way to another. If it was a speed sensor you would think it would have to be moving the make that happen.
Thanks. Jay
