W124 Sunroof tilts and closes, but won't slide open
Just bought my first Mercedes. 1994 E420. I'm pretty handy with a wrench, but am coming from newer VWs and don't know where to start with this Mercedes.
The problem: the sunroof tilts and closes fine, but when it goes to slide back, the passenger side drops but the drivers side doesn't, when then doesn't allow it to go back. It's like it's getting jammed on something or not getting pulled down like it's supposed to. I've tried the manual way and everything acts the same, tilts fine, gets jammed trying to slide. Any ideas what it could be? How can I get a better view as to what's going on? I tried "helping" it by pressing down on the rood while trying to open it, but it didn't help and I was afraid of breaking it. Any insight is helpful |

Make sure the seal around the top is fully in the groove. If it works out be even as much as an 1/8" towards the rear it can prevent the back of the lid from lowering. You should be able to check with the lid tilted upwards.

Your problem sounds like a bad lift bridge, should replace both while doing the job about 85-100 per side ,need to be able to slide roof almost all the way back to repair, inner panel only comes out when panel rearward, then once panel liner is out you can remove screws that are hidden

The seal seems fine. I guess the lift bridge is all that it could be. I'll probably just leave it be for until until I feel ambitious about trying to get moving the sunroof back, since I have yet to be able to.

Finally found a W124 in a local junk yard. Grabbed the sunroof lift arms out of it and finally go to taking my sun roof off. Sure enough one of mine was cracked which was causing it to get caught up. Wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. Definitely learned some stuff on the junk yard car, and learned more stuff on my car. Messed up my headliner piece a bit, but not enough to notice unless you're looking for it. Could definitely to it again without messing anything up now.
