OBDII scanner that works w/laptop
Hey guys, i'm looking for an OBDII scanner that can hook up to a laptop that will read codes from my 1989 300SEL and my 1992 500E. Anyone own one or suggest one? Preferably under $200, if one under $200 exists...if anyone knows of one please let me know. Links, all of that would be helpful. I've seen one online called Carsoft, but i can't find a pricing on it anywhere. Anyone know the price or any others? Thanks!

Your cars are not OBII.
You can get the codes with a $5 led/sw. flash tool. |
Positive they're not OBDII? B/c Carsoft tested with 88 300SEL. So I assumed my 89 300SEL would be OBDII. Where do i get this $5 led/sw flash tool then?

Do a search on this Forum.
The plans and instructions are here somewhere.\ in the archives. If you can't find them , get back to me later...... |
Yup, only cars 96 and newer have OBDII, except for the 95 C280, 95 E320, & 95 S320, with M104 motors.

Besides your car not being obd2 , that carsoft software is one of the worst on mercedes, they work ok on BMW but I can get more with a test light than that software can provide. You can also pull codes with your test light it doesnt have to be an led light.:D
