Help with transmission B1 piston install
I need help with installing the B1 piston on the transmission in a 93 300E 2.8. This is the 722.433 transmission. I opened up the transmission to replace a broken reverse clutch spring and installed new reverse clutches. In trying to reassemble the transmission, all went well until I tried to install the B1 piston cover and the double spring. I can not get it in enough to install the ring clip.
So far I have broken two bolts on my piston install tool, as well as bent the center spring for the B1 piston. I since have replaced the tool bolt with a harden 10.9 rated bolt and ordered a new spring. While waiting for the spring to come in I am hoping to gain some advice, for a correct procedure to install the piston. It looks like a straight forward process but after many attempts has got me stumped.. I removed the front pump and also the brake band to make sure it was in the correct direction. According to the manual, it is in correct. I now question the correct way to install the overload pressure valve and pin. Do you need to reset the pin and spring,(aka the same way as a timing chain tensioner)? My directions do not state that, but that would explain my difficulty. The brake band appears to be squeezed to tight with the piston in I would appreciate any advice and procedures on the install. Thanks. |
