Flooding again... need aftermath advice...

Hi guys,

Been a while... busy with a new job. Anyway, our country is being ravaged by a storm...AGAIN.

Seems my w140 submarine project is getting submerged a 3rd time... with newly installed 602 and newly overhauled tranny.

Anyway, question is... I'm a bit numb now... what do I do immediately after the waters subside? Just drain everything? What about the tranny?

My parents have 3 Ford vehicles currently being submerged... an Explorer, an Escape, and an F150... What do I have to do with those? Drain everything? And try to dry and salvage the ECUs?

Insurance claims are out of the question... selling may be a last resort but will try our best to salvage what we can.

I'm pretty sure the w140 will run again... no electronics there. I'm worried about the 3 Fords.

Thanks guys... this is getting old...

Oh for ****'s sake not again.

All I can suggest is build some parking high up on sticks. I know it is a bit late now.

As for the damage - pull the cars to bits and dry them out if you want to save them and you have the time.

Thanks bro,

I have little to no experience with Ford stuff and EFI stuff. Any idea how many "modules" I need to remove and dry out?

It used to be as simple as ignition key->starter solenoid->coil->distributor->plugs.

I have no experience with drying out modern electrickery - I guess most mechanics would just write it all off. Disposable society...

...if this was to happen to my W201 I guess I would remove each piece of wet stuff dry it out and then test as per the FSM for good functionality. It would be a total nightmare.

I really feel for you - once in a lifetime is more than enough - but three times - what the **** (I put in my own stars this time)

Yeah! 3 times is crazy!!! The w140 is worth it I guess...
Economics is different here... it's much cheaper to salvage than to write off, doable too... to a point.

I'm more worried about my parent's cars. I really need to make at least one of those run.

I think you should move to higher ground.

We'd have to sell the house first... :(

Well here's a solution someone made in another part of the world.

Hehe, that wouldn't work here... The first time water reached up to neck level at the 2nd floor!

Anyway,

Quick update:
We drained the escape... Water reached up to the top of the engine. Oil level didn't rise too much but we drained it anyway. Water didn't reach the ecu though.
We started her up and she did run, smooth... Though it refused to idle.
And btw, first time i turned the key the gauges and lights started to flash erratically.
Disconnected the battery and dried the fuse box and connectors located at the driver side kick panel. That did the trick and the flashing was gone.
After that i ran the engine, water gushed out the exhaust... After that it ran smooth, though with my foot on the pedal. i got it to idle a few times but now it just refuses to idle.
Another thing, whenever i connect the battery there's this buzzing sound near the intake area. And a few relays get triggered. I managed to eliminate the buzzing when i pulled the eec relay.
So tried tracing some connectors... I found out that when i disconnect the green connector at the kick panel, the relay wouldn't energize when i connect the battery. I guess the short/ground is there somewhere?
There are a couple of connectors in the engine bay that i can't access at the moment...
Plan is simply to disconnect and dry out all connectors...
If anybody has any idea where the eec relay is connected to that would help trace the grounding.
Oh yeah, another thing...this afternoon when i turned on the engine... It started to sputter, rotten egg smell emanated from the exhaust... And the cat started to smoke a bit... Could the cat cause the non-idle issue?
Thanks!
Things are looking good... Didnt expect the engine would run during the first attempt. :)
