Unhappy transmission trash

I think this 1968 230\6 k4C025 transmission needs to be replaced . If put into gear with the motor running the car will lunge then lock, the car can not be pulled or pushed while running in gear. It will roll freely in N , the fluid is clean and red. Is it possible some one used the improper fluid? would you think this tranny is trash? Thanks mike the crowman

Could it be low of fluid?

Let it warm up, good and hot to operating temp, then idle some more (should be something like 17 minutes driving). Since you can't drive you're gonna have to let it idle a long time to get the tranny fluid hot. Once the fluid is heated then check the level.
