Help!Rear differential replacement for 89 300E

My 89 mercedes 300E needs a new rear differential and I need to know if the rear differential on the 86 300E will work for my car. Is the rear differential exchangable for all 300E from year 86-89? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your time. Tom

On the rear end look on left lower corner on rear of differential , you may have to clean with cans paper lightly. There will be numbers this is your gear ratio. Make sure the other rear end has the same and you shouldnt have a problem . If you install one different , speedo will be off and I have heard of other problems. Best way to make sure is to have someone in parts look it up and double check.
