Anyone got any questions on the Project: Monopost Wiper Repair and Replacement for your Mercedes-Benz W124?

I need someone's class notes
 

Obviously I must have skipped class the day the lecture was presented on prying the sides away from the base of the monopost so that one can remove the plastic cover to clean the old grease and then reapply with new grease.

I find it VERY hard to believe that a Mercedes Mechanic is supposed to do this methodically.

My mono wiper works but all of a sudden it is a little of course MEANING that it is touching the roof edging just a little and going underneath the passenger side molding A LOT !!!

Perhaps the gear has jumped course ... Perhaps the grease is old and caked?

I cannot figure how to pry the plastic cover off to get past first base ... I know where that is going folks :)

A Repair to this challenge ???
 

After much dismay and thorough research I could not find a means by which to pry off the main windshield wiper gear box cover. I could not pry it off as instructed in the step by step with pictures presented nor did I have the indentation tabs as illustrated in the article Hesitating Wiper Fix.

What I have accomplished today was the removal of the wiper arm ... No big deal that was successfully performed yesterday ... then stopping the wiper assembly, via the ignition switch at it's furthest extension, and lubricating the heck out of it with WD 40 (the only spray lubricant I have???), with visible penetration to the gear box followed by several assembly I might add all be it slow process, over and over and over again.

Followed by several vain attempts to reattach the wiper arm at the right point where it would complete a wiping cycle without hitting either the passenger or the drivers edge molding. Eventually this too was accomplished. :)

What will the long term outcome be? Only time will tell ...

I swear my gear box cover does NOT pry off!

Pray it doesn't rain for awhile :)

This is how I managed to remove the cover from my wiper assembly. Check out the bottom pic, notice the phillips-head screws, IIRC they hold the cover in place:

Thank you. I very much appreciate you taking the time to respond and adding the photographs as well.

If I am interpreting the photographs appropriately this unit MUST be removed and then disassembled from underneath to access those screws. Would that be correct?

Currently I am combating a hood with comorbidity of EXTREME oxidation and clear coat failure. Meguire's told me, pretty much that it could not be done and that a new paint job was required. So far I have approximately 50 hours of labor in it and am approximately half way complete. No doubt that paint job will soon be in order but it is VERY bad measure to tell a retired military person with little money and LOTS of time that something can't be done. :)
