Front Sway Bar
I replaced the front sway bar on my 1994 E 320 because the original one had getting thinner under the bushing, I ordered from a junkyard and sway bar was a frontline type thicker 22 mm, after the replacement with the bushing for the heavier sway bar I got a creak/squeak noise. The noise was not there with the stock sway bar.

Did you use grease on the bushings? Poly bushings tend to squeak more than rubber bushings. It may have been a better choice to go with a smaller bushing on the original bar.

It is rubber bushing and no grease. I tried smaller bushing on original bar but is was not a tight fit. I think there should be no problem with the sportline sway bar. But something is a problem will remove sway bar and try without it and verify noise is from sway bar

Hi spit64,
sometime down the model year, Mercedes changed the swaybar, I believe as a result of the different control arms. Also the breakes got larger, I believe! If your arms are the type that have the replaceable ball joints, then the swaybar you got is the wrong one. There are many types of bushings, regarding their composition. Some of them have small amounts of teflon coating, to make it easier to install. With rubber bushings, one has to be careful to apply grease, since it may damage them or wear faster. Also, the mounting brackets need to be tightened all the way and torqued to, I believe 15'/lbs. If they are not tight, they may cause the squeacky noise. |
