86 sl wiring issues

Please help. I have an 86 300SL that has a battery drain. I think I've located it to the fuse that controls the trunk lamp, interior lamps, turn signals, hazard flasher and radio. All on the same fuse. The previous owner installed an aftermarket stereo, not sure if that's it or not. I had my battery checked and it was only drawing about 4 amps. When connecting a test lamp[after the fuse is pulled]between the neg. battery terminal and ground cable the light goes on as soon as I make a connection but then goes out. With the fuse in, the light stays on all the time. Is that normal? I also noticed on my trunk light holder that I have an extra wire connected to the light bar, what's that for? I thought maybe a trunk open indicator but I don't seem to have one. One last thing. Next to the battery[ mine's under the hood, passenger side] there's a black wire with a yellow stripe that's not connected to anything but has power to it when the key is on next to a brown wire which I assume is a ground. Any help will be greatly appreciated, I am not an electrician! P.S.I forgot to mention that my electric outside mirror doesn't work either but that's no big deal to me. Greg.

try again and use this info. not saying what you are doing is wrong, just a better method. use a digital meter, no analogs. good luck, chuck.

FYI - Usually these problems can be traced to do-it-yourself wiring.
