Correct rear shocks for 300E ?
 

I had new shocks put on a 1989 300E. Bilstein 24-18450 or B36-1388 or W124 320 12 13 part number. Didn't know until I looked under the car that this was put on. They are 'form' and 'fit' same as the ones that came off, BUT: function?
When I got to a computer and checked the Bilstein application data, it said "use until supply exhausted" and for varoius 1989 models such as 190E.

Question: Is the function of this Bilstein shock adequate for a 300E car?
If so, I am OK with the substitute.
If not, should I go scream & holler at the shop and supplier?

I'm concerned the 'function' may not be adequate for a 300E. Like a 190E is lighter, so the 300E may be heavier and require a stronger shock. No other reason. And Bilstein did not specifically state that the part was for 300E.

As for OE, that's what I've been told by several mechanics. Never knew of "Boge." But will look on web/research now.

They 'appear' to be operationally good. Considering age of other parts on car.
(Ones that came off actually failed - KYBs - by leaking hydraulic fluid at 38K miles.)

not knowing the bilstein catalog, i still wouldn't worry about it. bilstein is a good product and i seriously doubt you will see a difference between them and the correct bilstiens or boges.

if you want to push it, go back with the info you found, ask the installer why he did it and get the correct boges or bilstieins. i hope they offered a warranty on the product and installation. good luck, chuck.

Bilsteins does make good products. However for maximum performance and whatnot...they should probably be installed on the cars as bilstein specs...

I would suggest that the 190E shocks have no business on a 300E car. The 201 is lighter, smaller than the 124.

Original equipment was by Sachs or Boge or Sach/Boge now I think.

i realize the cars are different. my point is i doubt we can TELL the difference, chuck.

Maybe, maybe not. Maybe the extra dynamics of the 124 wear heavier on the 201 shock and reduce life.

You might very well be right however if I paid a shop to buy and install parts for my car, they had better be the parts for my car and not something that just happens to fit.

If I were OP I would talk to the shop and ask them why they put those on...Clearly there are differences between the two shocks.
