Question R129 SL600 Fuel System

Im wondering whats the best way to open the fuel tank on my 1997 sl600. someone put a couple of bags of sugar into my tank so ive recently pulled the tank out of the car but cant decide how to go about getting the sugar out of it. I know the car has a lot of internal parts within the fuel tank and im wondering how should i go about removing the parts. Do i need to cut the tank in half , or cut a whole in the top to access the componets? i cant find anything on the net to give me any direction, please help
thanks

Did you remove the fuel sender? That will give some access.

Gas tanks for these cars are a slow mover in a salvage yard. It might be a more direct route to get a used one what has not been sitting with old fuel beyond a year or so. Many yards drain tanks due to EPA regs so old fuel becomes less of an issue.

Have a look here car-part.com it is a nation wide inventory search for salvage yards.

Also, are you sure something was added to the tank? The fuel door on these cars locks with the door locks.

Popped it open, screwed up the paint. For sure sugar and for sure wont start. Removed tank and now considering parting car out, already started stripping inside interior.

Like i said to this guy...in post 11?

In this economy it is a giant waste of time to part a car, and Fleabay will get half your money-The pain of shipping-running around..

Take your loses sell the whole thing. it will be the best thing you ever did?

This is insanity, why are you trashing a car that just needs the fuel system cleaned out?

If you are" considering parting it out" why are you taking the interior apart? If you are taking it apart, considering is long gone as you are already trashing the car.
