Injector cleaning question
I hope to start putting my M103 motor together this weekend. Realizing that there will never be a better time to clean the injectors than while the manifold is already off, what is the best way to clean them? Also should the fuel distributor be cleaned? I can build a Holley carburetor in the dark, but I must admit my ignorance on injection systems:rolleyes: .

I was, or certainly felt :p, chastised by the techs on this forum for suggesting that I would open and clean the fuel distributor.
I believe you need special equipment to test and clean injectors. It's not difficult to replace injectors in the car... unless you're less than 5 feet tall. Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 81 300SD |
Mine are on the workbench right now. Manifold has been off for over a year. I'm thinking that some shops may have a gizmo that cleans injectors?? I don't want any problems when I try to start this engine.

Cap'n - auto shops up here have a piece of equipment that puts the concentrated injector cleaner through the injector - they usually charge $50 CDN - so it cannot be that complicated. Have a good weekend!;)

Cap'n C-
You may want to take your injectors to a business that can verify their spray pattern as well. I bought new injectors for a diesel and the parts counter person insisted I check the new ones. He even went so far as to have the shop foreman put them in a test rig. Sure enough, one of them wasn't as good as the others. Just my 2 cents |
haasman,
Is there a place in San Jose you can recommend for checking and cleaning injectors? Thanks, Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 81 300SD |

or coem to think of it, a dealership should be able to do it. Call and ask to speak to the Shop Foreman. What city are you close to?

City?? What's a city?

haasman,
I work near Park Ave in Palo Alto. Smythe isn't too far. The Park Ave guys treat me well but there's a definite sense that there's no such thing as getting away cheap. I've never had my car into Smythe but I don't see any cars more than 3 years old in the service ramp. When I don't see a lot of Diesels at a shop, I feel they'll be experimenting on mine. Plus I don't appreciate barriers that keep me from talking to the techs working on my car. Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 81 300SD |
If you want to take it to Palo Alto let me know. I know them and my neighbor works there. Bud at Cupertino Service is great as well.
