Current (Oct 2014) 560SEL Price at Wholesale/Auction Survey?

Hello all,

No really good place to post this one...

The question says it all – what can one expect to pay these days in your neck of the woods for a running, cosmetically ok, wholly without pedigree or service history '86-'91 560SEL at wholesale or auction?

I.E a 2-3+ owner car in the mid hundred thousands that needs the typical repairs - timing chain replaced, SLS brought back to life, passenger side camshaft replaced, schizophrenically malfunction ACC dealt with, an inoperative sunroof fixed, etc, etc plus all the “usual” neglected odds and ends cleared-up to bring service up-to-date.

The reason I ask is that here in Mid-Mo such cars are thin on the ground (as opposed to the oodles of 107 SL's which fall into this category ) so I have really zero little first-hand data to go on. For 126's around here we either have junkers that don't even make the cut as parts cars or the odd museum piece and not much else.

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

TIA!

25 year old cars aren't all that prevalent at dealer sales.

Get on craigslist or check out the classifieds on this forum.

At a used car dealer auction I'd expect what you describe to bring near scrap weight value.

A classic dealer is likely to go for something in better condition and a regular used car dealer will be running away. ( Unless regular dealer is a buy here pay here in the "hood" where it might have a chance of selling. )

As cars get older, the "driver" class cars continue to deteriorate, but low mile one owner cars are continually cared for so nothing is left to replenish the "driver" class.

I'd expect the market is pretty narrow for large old MB.
