Climate control keeps blowing fuses
 

Hi all;
My 89 300SE all of a sudden started blowing fuses when any part of the system is engaged(heat,air or vent).I posted about this two weeks ago asking advice about turning the heat off while I was on a trip.Thanks to Dan,I got the heat off and continued my trip.Now i'm home and am wondering where I start my trouble shooting.The fuse blows immediatly when the climate control is engaged.Does anyone have any ideas?

It could mean a problem with the blower motor. Could need new brushes or a whole new motor. It's pretty easy to get to the motor on a W126, but I don't know how to diagnose that it is the motor that's causing your fuse to blow. I suppose you could disconnect the motor and turn on the ACC. If the fuse doesn't blow, maybe it is the motor.

FWIW, my SE ACC fuse blew in June 2000 and June 2001. I'm waiting to see what happens in a couple of months.

Thanks for the reply. I read somewhere that the blower motor can be accessed from the cowl vent,do you know if this is true?

From the what? Must be another car. On a W126, you remove the panel under the dash on the passenger side (3 screws buried in the fabric), then remove the bottom cover of the blower case (screws? clips? don't remember), then remove the blower (4 screws). There are two wires that connect to the blower. Mine have different terminals. Make sure yours do or mark them.

To remove the motor, remove the screw that holds the motor to the plastic bracket, fold in the terminals enough to let the motor slide out. The motor shaft is pressed into the fan. You can punch it out or get a replacement motor with fan.

is it your blower motor fuse or your climate control fuse that is blowing? if it's your climate control fuse you may want to check your aux heater pump located below the coolant resivor to see if it's running. if this is seized it will blow the cc fuse when the heater is turned on. or simply try unplugging it.good luck...paul.
