oil pressure sender on m-103 engine
My 86 300sl has low oil pressure and I was wondering if it can be adjusted without replacing the sender. It looks like there's a screw in the middle of it. Thanks.

why does it have low oil pressure? my concern is the engine, not the gauge. get a mechanical gauge and screw into the port the sender comes out of. if they agree, you have another problem. i mech. tester is higher than the dash says, then the sender is shot. i have never adjusted a gauge, nor have i been asked to do so. i'm sure that's done at the factory with the correct testers involved.
only low pressure complaints i've dealt with were high mileage, worn out cars. good luck, chuck. |

Thanks,my mechanic suggested changing the sender since they're fairly inexpensive just to see what it does. According to my paperwork the motor was gone through about 4 years ago, I don't know why but it had a new set of rings and chain guide and some other things.

real oil pressure is oil pump, rod and main bearings, etc. rings and timing parts have no effect on oil pressure. that being said, i believe the sender is the cure for the gauge. that's why i suggested confirmation with a mech. one. good luck, chuck.

Happened to me. It was the sender. They're known to leak also. I would change. Easy to change and not expensive.

Just did mine on a similar vintage, '89 260e, you're overdue for a new one.
