help with oil
hey everyone I work at a Hyundai dealer so my question Is I just purchased a 2009 Mercedes c230 4matic through work and I did an oil change so I ordered the oil from Mercedes which is ridiculous price I believe its just a 5w40 full synthetic, now at Hyundai I have access to Hyundai 5w40 full synthetic for free lol would I be able to use that in the Mercedes if I do a oil change every 5000km ?

Mobil 1, 0W40 is the "off the shelf oil" for MB. I suspect the free 5W40 full synthetic oil would be fine. My recommendation is to change it and the filter every 10k miles.

not all 0w40 mobil 1s are created equal.. same goes for other brand synthetics.
the front of the correct mobil bottle says european car formula. the back label say meets mb spec 229.5 ANY brand syth. that meets mb 229.5 is ok. kendall comes to mind-but not ALL kendall. you have to check the labels. what goes wrong if you don't? don't know, don't care. the right stuff is the right stuff. otherwise, mb would go the cheaper route and say pour anything. as far as time and mileage, mb in 2009 say 12mos/10k miles, whichever is 1st. 40k on the trans and filter. good luck, chuck. |

It needs to meet the MB229.5 spec. You can get the 5 qt jug of Mobil-1 0W/40 at Walmart for about $26.00

I wouldn't think you would have a gunked up engine yet but here is the best thing ever for cleaning engines. It is not petroleum based cleaner. My two engines are beyond clean!

I put new oil in there and it's. Still black the colour inside the engine is clean no sludge or anything so I wanted to do some flushes to clean it out

I was gonna use the 5w40 full synthetic from work since it's free and do a change every 5000km with filter to but if it's gonna harm the engine I won't use it

I haven't read the 229.5 spec, so I don't know what it says. I suspect it specifies certain characteristics needed for long drain intervals. You might be fine running the Hyundai stuff and changing it more frequently, however this is in the realm of experimentation. If you're willing to take the chance of experimenting on your engine, I for one would be interested to see what happens.

If you change the oil every 3000 miles, any oil will be good enough.

help with oil
Don't put anything in your oil -- a good oil should have plenty of detergents to keep things clean.
If you go with Dino, Chevron DELO 400 15W-40 or Shell Rotella-T are great. Just change them at 3-5K intervals. If you go partial synth, go with. Mobil 1 and change it at 5K. Few Mobil 1 are "full synthetic" despite what their marketing says. If you go full "Mack Daddy" synthetic go with Red Line. It's expensive but the very best. Motul is also an excellent choice. You can go extended drain with these & change them at 10K. Cheers, Gerry Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
