Make your own gaskets

That's what I was thinking. This material is pretty thick. I'll see if I can find the thickness of the the inspection thing.

Haha. Had that experience recently.

Either way, it sometimes makes the difference of the car being down a few days.

I got way bigger problems but I'll probably order one if (when) the case arises that I have to remove the line for some reason...

Self adjusting slave cyl like these have a deep bore with a light spring pushing against the piston to keep it extended. So you think there is enough space within the slave piston with the spring behind it to take up the discrepancy in body position and lack of a gasket? There could be - I'd have to check on that. But I'm not going to do that! My slave cylinder is fitted and bled and it ain't coming off for toffee!

I guess I'll alter my advice to say make sure the piston in the slave cylinder isn't all the way in the housing when you fit it with a modified gasket / shim / spacer. Distance is important.

Talked to the stealership. Home made gasket is fine. They have done the same.

Lol. I'm sorry for calling it the stealership. Old habbit. Store for what?

Its funny you ask that, i was just thinking about it today. I'm in the produce (vegetable) business and was contemplating opening my cooler as a retail location. So maybe next year, but it won't have MB parts.

Do you have a dealership or something? I'll remove my comment if you will sell me part number 0002952235 at a reasonable price. $55 at dealership, $10 everywhere else. Is the quality 5 times better? I doubt it.

I don't have a dealership but have been in / around the auto repair business for nearly 40 years.

I'm all for value shopping and yes some parts are more at a dealer than aftermarket ( especially older stuff that does not go to dealer for service. )

When I needed a wiper blade for my 97 C280 , they were $ 25 for Anco at the auto parts and didn't fit properly, it was $ 18 at the dealer and fits!

When I got my 97 SL320, I replaced _all_ coolant hoses ( except for the molded ones feeding the heated windshield, being a summer car I bypassed that ) dealer pricing was inline with aftermarket of dubious quality and, one sub $ 20 hose was sent next day air from Germany _FOR NO ADDITIONAL COST, try that from the cut rate or even good quality parts sellers.

Opening a car dealer store, this way you can sell everything at low prices.

Yes, please open your wholesale business to retail, this way the low end Wallmart shoppers can call you a stealer. . ..If you have never run a retail business, you have no idea what you are in for.. . It is even more difficult being in the auto repair business where customers ( like your self ) are unhappy that they have to spend $ on car repairs and take it out on everyone involved.

Edit: I'll retract my previous statement and leave it at that. I call it the stealership when I walk in, they laugh and tell me they will sell me a new car.

To be honest I don't think it is really worth my time if I can buy one. If I couldn't get one then I'd make one but so far the spares availability on both my W123 and my W201 has been exceptional. This is one of the reasons why I bought Mercedes in the first place.

The dealer spare parts prices can be very expensive. But I have found numerous parts (often "made" by Febi) to be more expensive than those sold at "stealerships". However, I must admit that more often than not the dealer is the more expensive option. But you have to offset that against the likelihood that the dealer can actually get the part and you know it is going to fit (well 99% chance it will fit) - and you know that the dealer can usually find a part that isn't made by others.

Mercedes provide a fantastic spare parts service.

That took like 3.5 minutes. I just love the ability to not have to wait when you need one. That's one thing, the dealership always gets the right one. eBay, not so lucky.

One experience I had recently was the pins for the harmonic balancer. The dealer supplies ones 4mm too long. On my previous motor someone didn't know this and installed them and it ate the balancer and the crank.

Ups and downs. Be responsible for your own car I guess.
