Test cable / adapter cable 124589366300 what's it all about?
G'day folks,
I'm about to perform a compression test on my M102 and I dutifully looked in the FSM to see how they say it should be done. The book says to disconnect the ignition module and then plug in an "adapter cable" - this is a special tool part number => 124589366300 Now I reckon I'll just connect a crocodile clipped bit of wire from the solenoid on the starter and touch that on the +tve battery terminal to get the starter motor to work and by-pass all of this switching on the ignition nonsense but it left me wondering => "What the **** is this adapter cable doing"? Does anyone know? Has anyone seen one? It seems a rather expensive bit of wire to buy... ...now I know curiosity killed the cat but sometimes us old dogs need to stick our necks out and ask dumb questions. |

It probably bypasses the distributor circuit and most of the running electronics.

You'd expect that to be the case wouldn't you. But according to the FSM the ignition circuit gets disabled by disconnecting the crank position sensor. I get the impression from what I have read so far that the ignition electronics behave a little bit like an amplifier that can add in delay. The FSM also says to disable the fuel pump relay so I don't see what this magic bit of wire is meant to do. May be there's more to these spark ignition engines - but as far as I can tell no spark = no bang; no fuel = no bang... |

So it just hot wiring the starter. Thanks!
Can be replaced by a wire and a crocodile clip as planned. |
