w124 heated seats!!

Hey guys

For the first time, in the entire time I've been at a junkyards looking at 300E's, the junkyard gods have bestowed to me a w124 with heated seats!!!!

I would like to swap them onto my 1991 w124 but the donor car is a 94... I'm hoping that they will swap over? :O even with the years difference? I got the switches but will have to go back in the next couple of days to get the seats. What do I need? The seats, switches, the harness and then I would imagine the relay, where would I find the relay? The harness didn't look easy but didn't look difficult either, the ground was to that SRS detection box and the harness for them seemed to go back towards the seats themselves. I'm really hoping to do this swap because I've always imagined my 300E with heated seats and when I saw these today I was like

From the looks of it, it doesn't seem too bad, it's just getting the wiring all set, but from what I've read it's finding the parts that can be a hassle, but I have the parts car complete in front of me, I just need info on the process and if the parts out of this 94 will fit my 91.

Heated seats would be amazing.... would be a dream come true... then all I would need would be a manual transmission

You need to pull the seats, the center console, and the carpets. The module is under the rear seat. The harness goes from the left front kickpanel to under the rear seat then back to the center console switches and over to the right seat.

It is a lot of work but absolutely worth it.

That's what I needed to know!! Thank you!!! Going tomorrow and ripping all of that out of that car! I'll try and post pics of I can.

Also, is there a relay, or is the module the same thing?

No relay, the module is all there is. Power comes from a distribution block in the left footwell. Disconnect the harness there. You should have a few empty slots in yours to tie it into.

Dont forget to grab the switches and console wood of course.

Ohhhhhhhh crap...... The donor is an E420 and that seat bottom looks aufwly familiar.... Sigh... In the case that these seats are too narrow, which I think is the case, is there any way to make them fit? Or did Mercedes just pull a fast one on me? Why would they make the v8 seats narrower???

You could probably just change the covers down to the pad.

Despair not. Others have swapped out the base; it is just a little more involved.

Thanks for the link!! The anticipation of whether the seats would fit or not got to me, so I tried installing the drivers side seat, and to my surprise and relief, it fits! PHEW

Kind of weird though, theoretically they shouldn't fit, right? It's a 1991 300E (2.6) and the 94 E420 was a V8 i'm pretty sure, unless the chassis's on the 90/91-95 are the same and the chassis on the earlier models are different.

I got everything at the yard today except the 12v feed in wiring harness which was tied into this huge bundle of wires and went under the brake booster and I didn't even want to bother, I'll just order it from the dealer tomorrow so I'll have it for the install day on Tuesday or Thursday. Everything with the install looks pretty straight forward, the job looks not bad at all, the part that was most difficult at the yard was the seats on odd positions making it difficult/impossible to reach the back bolts, and since they're electric and the car had no power it presented a wee bit of a problem. Thankfully the yard worker had a battery and he helped me get power to the motors and move them all the way forward and up and not to mention these seats happen to be in thee most disgusting car, trash everywhere and sludge on the carpet, back carpets smelling like pee... ugh....

Sounds good I'll look more into it too, maybe I can find something about it...

Looking further into it, the connectors for the seat motors are different, the old seats have 4 pins and the new seats have 5, I'm assuming for memory?

Going to see how I'm going to go about that, maybe switch out the motors? Or if necessary the bottom frame. Would like to fix that asap, as driving this morning with the seat high up and tilted forward was not a pleasant experience Lol
