So it is a 2 chain from the factory! Thank God! The car will start when it's been sitting for a long time a day or so but as soon as I hit the gas it dies. I'm guessing it's the fuel regulator or fuel distributor. If you have any suggestions I would really appreciate it. Thank you soo much for the help, you went above and beyond happy holidays to all.

i've no knowledge of euro 380s. you still have to pull the covers and look at the cam marks and such. then you can see everything. good luck, chuck.

I've done all the common Mercedes gasser checks. I think the problem is in some aftermarket part called a K loop that I heard was put on graymarket cars to run up to US standards for smog. I'm actually hoping that's not the culprit because I have no idea about the unit. I can't find a wiring diagram or any information on this "k-loop"

you are correct in that most cars have rails break and not chains. but i've had a few that did break the chain. but, no holy pistons or wasted heads-very lucky. let me know, please. thanks, chuck.
I just came up with the 200K because I have seen lower guides warm/broken at 250K or more, but never any below 250K. I really would like to do my lower at the same time as the uppers (100K) but the labor is 3 or 4 times longer to do the lower 2 guides that rarely cause problems until after 250K or so.
The one I saw that holed a piston and broke the cylinder wall was turning over 5000 RPM when it let go. Most I have seen actually happen at start up so there is not as much damage.

It's been several years since I have had a front cover off. I don't know if you can get that far down with a borescope. If it works, let me know. That might be the thing that will make me get one.

Thanks
