W202 HVAC issues
Hi everyone,
I'm troubleshooting a couple of issues with the HVAC in my 2000 C230 (W202). It has the manual HVAC setup. 1. Blower fan blows irregularly. Basically, the only reliable settings are "OFF" or "MAX," all the settings are unreliable and will change blower speeds randomly (e.g. going over bumps). Is this the regulator or could this be a problem with the fan speed control dial? 2. The heat control is a little variable. It occasionally will suddenly blow very hot or very cold regardless of the temperature dial. Also, if I leave the temperature dial alone, the amount of heat that comes out of the vents slowly goes down over time. Any ideas on this one? |
These cars are possessed by the devil! My wife bought one of these last year, and while it drives very nice, the A/C works for only seconds at a time, the blower motor ramps up and down like yours, the defroster only works at full-hot and roasts the interior while not really doing a very good job of defogging the window at all, and the windows, mirrors and locks work when they want to. Removing and replacing the battery cable gets all but the A/C working again...for a little while. My current thought is the 'Comfort Module' located...somewhere on the car. It supposedly ties EVERYTHING together for the primary purpose of making the car unnecessarily complicated and life a living hell for second hand owners.
My ratty old Jeep's windows, mirrors, and A/C have always worked fine, without any modules at all (it's a 1988). |
I don't have any of those troubles on my 1998. Different year though. Only trouble I had was the duo valve got sticky. And the LCD display stopped working. But the 99 and 00 don't have the LCD display on the climate control.
