W210 ac need help asap!!!

Ok so I haven't done anything to the car and just had gauges hooked up and was told there was plenty of freon in the system. Ac won't turn on unless I hold down both auto buttons, and when I let go the compressor shuts back off. Ex button led works like it should if I push it led comes on if I push it again led goes off. Please help, I'm on a 6 hr ride home right now.

It's interesting that you can get it to work by holding both buttons down. Is there any way to tape them down while you get it figured out?

The CCU is known to take a dump. I took mine apart and there was extensive corrosion on the foil traces. I had to solder jumpers over the bad parts to get it working again.
