OM603 Injector bodies
I am in the process of changing out my #14 head with a #18. I have discovered that the injector bodies are different. The injectors in my #14 head are brand new (reman). I have an old set of 1993 injectors that have the correct body. Can I simply R&R the bottom part of the body using just the newer version lower body with the entire upper older style Injector?
Your speedy responses are much appreciated. Mark |
So long as the internal measurements are the same when assembled and the two haves join, it should work. Can't say that I have experience with that swap but the injectors themselves are not complicated or numerous in parts so try to measure and dry fit.
Whenever opening these injectors and particularly with doing the swap in parts that you are contemplating, there is no guarantee that they will perform perfectly unless you check/adjust pop pressures and spray pattern. Give it a shot and report back, I had my #14 prechambers fitted to the #17 head rather than go to the later style injectors. If your head is off the engine you may consider having the machinist fit your old prechambers to the new head. If you use the later style injectors, you will need to bend your fuel lines as the new prechambers are inclined and you will also need the later style (later head) glow plugs for use with the later prechambers. It may be easier to modify the #14 prechambers or the head and save having to do all of the other changes. |
Thanks for the suggestion. I went ahead with the body swap. Started right up, but is running real rough. I will crack the lines to try ti find the culprit injector. In the end will probably purchase newly remanned injectors.
Thanks Mark |
