2007 Mercedes R350 Rear Air Spring Problem

I am hoping that someone can help me with an issue on my wifes car. Today I noticed that the car was leaning towards one side. Taking a closer look it appeared that the right rear side of the car was much lower.

I jacked the car up and found that the car actually has air suspension. Was not aware of this before as the front had Struts. Anyways the rear right side air spring has not air in it. It was completely empty. I then started the car and the air spring become hard and compressed with air but the car did not raise itself. I am not familiar with the system and was hopping for some information to be able to determine the problem. My guess is that it is a problematic air spring,but I am also not sure how to remove it. I am guessing that simply raising the car and deflating and remove a few components will be enough.

If anyone has any information on the system and what I should check out I would appreciate it.

Just replace it, loosen airline with 10mm wrench, slide bag down at top , then
pull it out , put a new one on along with new top guide, get the parts at dealer , its simple to replace

Do yourself a favor and replace both of 'em while your under there. Leaking rear air springs will cause the pump to work overtime, leading to premature failure. ;)

I replaced the bad air spring. I will order another one and replace the other side just to make sure that I do not run into an issue down the road.

One problem I still have. The car is still not level the side where I replaced the air spring is lower than the other side. Is there a way to adjust that?

I see 2 problems here and potentially 3. Your car was off and one side was lowered and you jacked it up and realized it was air suspension, but the side had no air in it. You started the car and then noticed that the side which you said had no air suddenly became hard and filled with air, but you still replaced the part anyways. Now that the part is replaced you are still having the same problem and you are possibly looking to buy the same part for the other side just in case. You did not truly diagnose and fix the first problem. I don't have any true knowledge of air suspension, but the process of elimination should be used if you are able to do so. Left and right suspension are identical so when the car is off see if the side that isn't giving you problems is also lacking air, if so, air probably fills the air bag once car is started. Also try looking at the mechanical components on each side to ensure they are both functioning properly. If it's not a huge pain, try swapping the left suspected failed part to the right and see if the problem moves. This at least allows you to narrow down the problem. I would not continue to purchase parts unless you are at least 90% sure.
