'91 300SEL Dash Cluster Removal
I've read thru a number of threads here on this subject. Am aware of the special hooks used to remove the dash cluster.
Do you also need to pull the steering wheel? None to thrilled about having to remove the air bag. Thanks for your time. |

It's tight but I have removed without removing steering wheel. Put a couple towels over the leather rim.

Steering wheel can be left in place, no need to remove it.
You should be able to pull it forward then reach behind and disconnect wires. Be careful with the big plug on the side, sometimes they can be stuck.

No need to remove the wheel. Just extend it all the way before disconnecting the battery.
Two important things: Disconnect the battery. And I like to apply at least one layer of electrical tape along the wood just below the cluster. As you pull the cluster and mess around with it trying to disconnect wires, you're VERY likely to scratch the wood with the back of the cluster. |
