I am afraid you are in for some fine drill/tap expertise...
The screws are grounding studs for the coils and should not be removed ... the coils simply push on them as any electrical connector. Would think them to be dealer item. |

Stripped Retaining Screw on Ignition Coil. 1994 E320
Hello to all.
While replacing the spark plugs on my 1994 E320, I stripped the heads off of two of the coil retaining screws. These are the little head less screws that hold the coil in place. There is one screw per coil. The third screw came out fine. 1. Should I use a small "Easy Out" to get the screw out? What other method could I use? 2. Can I buy these screws at Fastlane or Partshop? Thanks, John |

Thanks Arthur, are you saying that all I have to do is pull strait up to remove the coils? Thus the screws would stay in place?
Would you provide more detail on how to remove the coils properly so I don't get in any deeper? Thanks, John |

Yes, just pull straight up.
The grounding studs make the contact by a spring clip at the bottom of the coil. Just a friction contact simular to a plug wire end. |

Thanks again Arthur, I removed the second coil and replaced the plug.
When removing the third coil, the boot stayed on the plug. I need to find the proper tool to remove third boot. Just the head on the stud is stripped, not the threads so I do not need to remove the stud at this time. Thanks so much for the advise. John |

A little squirt of WD 40 and a twisting motion will relieve the boot. They get stuck to the sides of the head hole. They don not clip onto the plug. It is a spring that rest on top.
Highly recommend new ones if they have any milage on them. [ just the coil ones] |

I will order new ones today from FastLane. I am trying to track down a little engine vibration at idle, while in drive, and with the engine at operating temperature.
I am going to check and clean out the EGR tube next per your suggestion also. I love this web site......... Thanks again, John |

EGR clean out on m104 engine.
Hello Dalton,
I´ve read your article on the clean out trick of the EGR. I have been looking at my euro 300E 2.8 and cant find the EGR that you show in the photo. What I do have are two lines going to the air intakes separately. Straight from the master brake cylinder. Are these the same as the one that you mention or do I miss something and should I have a second, better, look? Thanks, marc |

Some Euro versions do not have an EGR system.
It is a USA emmission regulation. |

sounds good and bad
Hello Arthur, thanks for the fats reply, I was starting to doubt my eyesight and I am not that old yet. So it could very well be that i can not find it because it is not there. That is good. On the other hand I had sort of hoped that it would help me with my idle problem, so if it will not that is kind of too bad.
My 2.8 runs really smooth except when she idles and the tranny is in D or R. Then the revs drop and she gets really shaky as if she is running on a few cylinders too little. The sparkplugs look a little white so I expect the mixture to be too lean. I will exchange the psark plug leads and the tubes below the ignition coils coming weekend and see if this helps. My shop mentioned a blown head gasket but I am not really loosing any fluids and there is not too much pressure on the coolant system so I doubt their judgement a little. Ill let you know what happened with the idle after replacing these parts. Thanks again, marc |
