W201 wiper repair

Owned my '93 since new, and 2 days ago while driving in the rain, the wiper blade started going too far over to the right and got stuck. I got it un-stuck, then coming home it started going to far over to the left side and getting stuck.

I removed the wiper arm assembly and took it apart. The half circle gear is completely stripped/crumbled. My parts guy has one in stock and I'll install it tomorrow. I plan to remove the cover and clean and grease everything before putting it back together.

Bummer, but glad you're going to be able to get it fixed easily. I just went through the process of disassembling, cleaning, and lubricating the entire system on my w201. Tedious, but not terribly difficult. The result was a wiper that now sweeps smoothly across the windshield.

Any w201 owner should do this as preventative maintenance. Honestly, I didn't until the wiper started slowing mid-swipe. I tried spraying the pivot points, but it's the inside mechanism that needs attention.

She's fixed, glad my parts guy had the replacement gear in stock. I also removed the front cover and cleaned and greased it too. My original gear was falling apart more due to heat and age than lubrication... very brittle.
There sure is a lot of moving parts in that mechanism. Who says MB's are over engineered?

Oh to have rain again...

In my whip the gears are steel, nice for peace of mind maybe noisier though.
