I second Benzman500 -- my 1984 AMG Euro has straight pipes from the header pipes, on either side of the driveshaft, to the resonators located just ahead of the rear wheels.

I want ,,, I Want,,, I WANT that exhaust !!!!!!! :p :p :p

I am going to print out the schematic and take it to my neighbor for input. He owns/operates a custom exhaust shop, mostly for off-road rigs, but am sure he can help put it all together and do a quality job.

I have a set of those in my garage! I don't think you NEED the euro manifolds, the US ones will physically bolt up, I am 90% the exhaust ports are the same size. The only thing is is that you'll put a cork in the motor so no more 300hp... So I guess you could say it is highly recommended you get a set of euro manifolds!! Or...get a set of these made...

Scroll down a little over half way.

That coupe is a monster!!!

I passed on a great (US) 87 560SEC with 90k a few years ago, because I just could not see my two kids with carseats in the back. Now I wish I had bucked up, because they ride in mom's Suburban everywhere anyway.

I expect the euro exhaust will fit to my US manifold as well. Probably a good question for timevalve/others.

Any speculation out there on what kind of Hp gain I could expect if I only modified the exhaust? I'm not looking for 300Hp but I would like to see some benefit.

Otherwise I will start to inquire across the pond for the right stuff !!!

I think I misunderstood bribenz, I thought he was talking about an exhaust on the euro MOTOR, not putting a euro exhaust on a US car. Yes, to put the euro exhaust on a US car, you will need euro exhaust manifolds. The driver's side US manifold flange is parallel to the ground (goes behind motor), and it needs to be pointing down so you can run a pipe under the car. The other side on US cars is somewhat like a T, or Y-pipe, where the pipe from the back of the motor from the driver's side hooks into and the passenger side, and then it goes under the car. The euro is true dual, and you need true dual manifolds. I'm purely speculating, but a complete exhaust, no resonators, either no cat or high flow unit, free flow muffler, you'd probably get a good 20HP. If you get a complete factory exhaust from Timevalve with resonators and OE muffler, less. If I can get the pic to work, here is a pic of the manifolds you'll need:

Ok so it didn't work. If this next try doesn't work, I give up!

thanks for the clarification mbtjc.

The timevalve schematic is misleading.
I saw the custom header on the 300 Hp monster so have a pretty good visual of what I need. Quite a difference from the US version.

Guess I will add to my "wish list" and start searching.

Ae you wanting custom made headers like those on that car? Wow...that has got to be insanely expensive!! But hey, if you have the moolah, by all means go for it. If not, then you'll just have to find a set of euro manifolds like those in the picture (if it worked). Benzman500's euro 500 sadly got totaled, maybe you could inquire with him if you would be able to get the manifolds from it. Just an idea.

If I had that kinda coin, I wouldn't be driving a 17+year old sedan.

No - I'd be looking for euro parts. My existing exhaust is serviceable, but nearing its end, so I am interested in putting good money to keep the car in proper condition. And if I spend a few more bucks to get some performance ..... that's a huge plus !

I think having an older sedan like a W126 is not only a matter of having enough cash, but some people, like me, just like them!!! Call me crazy, but I would not trade my car straight up for a brand new one. With the exhaust situation, yeah, if yours is nearing its end anyways, by all means upgrade to a euro setup. It would end up costing around the same anyways. Are you wanting a stock euro setup (cat, resonator, OE muffler) or are you wanting to go more performance than that? For stock, just go with timevalve, but if you want to go further than that, I would get a custom bent setup, so you won't waste your money on the cat resonator and muffler if you're just going to get rid of them or replace them anyways. As far as the manifolds...hmm...try Potomac (pgauto.com) they sometimes have euro parts, but not always. It helps when you have a german connection, let me tell ya! I don't really know where specifically you could get a set...anyone have any ideas?

My car was sold not totalled. If it was totalled it would be in my driveway untill I could fix it. If your willing to spend that much money on exhaust why not got for remus, amg or barbus?

Oh ok, sorry bout that. Just a dumb question, if your car wasn't totalled, why didn't you fix it if you were going to fix it if it was totaled? I don't know much about all the insurance crap.

As far as the mufflers, I think Remus makes a bolt on for that car, but it costs like $700..for that you could get an entire exhaust, a little pricey if you ask me. I know AMG used to make an exhaust for it, but does Brabus make one or sell universal mufflers?

Yep, most definitely a euro. Looks to be in decent shape. Very fix up-able. Are you interested?
