The injectors have a fuse from what I recall, not sure what # it is on your car.

This has DAS X antitheft. Chip in key , RFID antenna around the ignition lock , small black box behind the instrument cluster ( 210 820 32 26 , just follow the RFID antenna wire )

The DAS box is locked to the engine computer so if you sub parts, you need the key / DAS and engine computer all to match. I know the injectors are shut off if DAS does not see the proper key, not sure if the ignition shuts off too. From what I recall there will be at least a start stall if DAS does not release.

do you have the original key to the car? Does this car have red/green lights on the rear view mirror?

try unlocking the car first from the remote. I saw a car quite a while ago that was a no start 97 E320 at a workshop, the fault was with the key itself which had tripped the security.

The remote does unlock and lock doors. Also sets the alarm. The lights on the door and rearview mirror are green. Fuel pressure is good. Changed the computer 3 times. Voltage is good at fuel injector.

Read through my post 2 again. You can't change just the engine computer. Have you ever seen this car run or was it presented to you as a non runner?

as 97SL320 said

you cannot swap out computers on this car (MB made it like this to prevent chop shops hacking these up)

you need the original ECU to make the engine start.

Sorry, I missed that. It was presented as not running.

So what are my options then?

Thanks for your help

Whatever happens, be sure to post the result to help others in the future.

If you have easy access to other cars that run / all parts from the same car, get the engine computer / DAS X box behind instrument cluster ( clipped above the brake peddle box black 3" x 5" X 1", should be marked 210 820 32 26 ) and key.

Pop the antenna ring out of the dash ( around the ig lock ) or use the antenna ring from the parts car. Swap both boxes, put the key that goes with the boxes in the antenna ring, use tape or something to keep it from falling out. Make sure that antenna ring is plugged in to the dash box and kept away from the key that turns the lock. Use the original key to turn the ignition lock / start car.

A computer from a 97 SL320 / C280 will start and run the car. The C280 will run the car but it will lack power / bog, not sure if it will relearn I didn't drive this combo very far. 97 S320 would also work , 98 / 99 might work as the motors are the same. 98 up V6 cars won't work.

Does the original key fob look like it fell apart? There is an RFID chip inside that is read by the DAS X box, if this is missing the car won't start. In this case, you can get a flat key from the dealer that has a chip and it will start the car _IF_ the original computers are OK.

I always had one Mercedes and just bought 96-300d with 234,000.00 all was fine except check engine light, batty seems week so just for a hack of it pored Epsom salt and left it on slow cycle for 12 hours. Asked son to hook it up and car started as usual but the cluster is not working. I bought and put a new battery as old battery was bad and cluster is still not working. I read K40 relay and want to know if its the same for E300 of 96 and if that is the problem and how can I check it. Thanks to all- BN
