D.I.Y topics-let's see some more on more recent models-ANY IDEAS??

i was looking at the D.I.Y. section and i thought we could use some additions to the list.now, i realize to do a repair to a vehicle is hard enough and to add the verbage for us laymen(sp?) is another thing.it's a great place,i just thought we could use more.i, for one, would like to see timing chain replacement, shock repair or even caliper replacement.what do you guys/gals think?

I would like to see even more categories. I would suggest items such as: Maintenances- oil service, major etc. sub-divided such as doors- which could contain hinges, locks etc. Lighting-sub-divided into head lights, tail lights, interior lights.

This may also reduce the senior members feeling as though they have answered the newbee questions tons of times.

Well the problem is, not too many people who do their own DIY, document and take pictures for us to follow.

When I did the radiator in my car, I did my best to document the installa nd removal as best I could for everyone to be able to use. and I took the time to write up what I did in my words.

If someone doing the timing chain on a particular model wants to document and write it up, then submit it to bill wood, I'm sure it would get put up on the diy section.

what needed is more basic info..pulling codes., how to intrepret, how to do rudimentary troubleshooting, etc, etc...frankly most of us don't have the time to do too much DIY ...all we need is enough insight to keep the mechanics/dealers honest. Comments???

to put a long story short, was driving, slowed to 25mph for blind turn, car nudged me in the rear, I went spinning around, so did he, and ended up head on in the curb with the rigth front. He then hit me after his spin even more into the curb.

Damage estimate from ins co... $4700

Mostly suspension damage.

AllI can say is, if all works out, I'll have a bodykit, 17" wheels, and sport shocks on the car when its done.

Since most of us donít have time to do large jobs I would like to see more DIY info on changing oil/filter, spark plugs, tranny filters and smaller jobs that we could do in an hour or two. I'm not even going to attempt a head gasket replacement or valve job etc. even if I had a DIY guide. If it were for the more simple jobs and could save us a couple hours of $70 an hour shop labor I know I would be happy to see it. I might even be willing to pay $20 a year for it if it was well thought out and gave me info I could use. Another thought would be put it in Adobe Acrobat format so it would be downloadable and printable like a small service guide.
