W126 header tank overflow tube

The header tank that has the radiator cap on it has a tube that runs through the inner guard from inside the engine bay. This tube was all brittle and cracked at the top so I ordered a replacement tube which has arrived. My question is how do I get to the other end of this tube? I have looked in the wheel well and can't see any obvious entry hatches.

Cheers
Matt.

Where! How!

You remove the pasenger side front wheel, along the inside/underside edge there are 8 or so bolts that secure the plastic wheel well liner in place, remove these bolts and the liner and you will be able to look rearward and see the overflow chamber under the rear end of the passenger side front fender. I think two bolts at the top secure it in place as it sits on a bracket at the bottom. Probably easiest to unbolt, attach the new hose, feed hose back up through opening and resecure in place, then attach hose to top tank. Replace the wheel well liner, bolts and wheel and your done. Good Luck!

Just did this 2 weeks ago. Billybob's on it except there's no need to unbolt the reservior, the hose is an easy fit with the tank in place. The CD says to remove right front wheel which I did, but it may be possible to do it with the wheel on.

My temp had been running between high 80's to just under 100 and after replacing the overflow tube it stays steady between 80 and about 82. Must have some impact on system pressure and overall function. I had assumed it was only to catch excess coolant.
