Basic timing setup question
In the MB 124 CD, the M103 engine section has an illustration of the timing gear and chain setup. It shows how to change the basic timing by -3 degrees, 0 degrees or +3 degrees by changing the bolt on position of the cam gear. Question is, why and when would you install in any position other than 0 degrees?

IF the cylinder head was "milled" due to overheating then you might have to reset the basic cam timing.

My head was milled when I had the valves and guides done, so I may need to retard timing?
