Hi
1988 300d My drivers electic window has failed. It clicks when I press the switch and the interior light dims slightly. I cant get it down to remove it. Any ideas? |

Most likely you need a new motor!
Try to press the switch and close the door at the same time. That may release a stuck motor. A temporary fix.
You can also try to clean your switch and see what happens. Good luck!

Your window regulator is most likely snagged on something. As a motor gets loaded(when it gets jammed) it draws more current and that would expalain your diming lights.
if it makes a sound most likely it is the regulator. try removing the door cover and, watching your fingers carefully, try to free it. the motor is very powerfull and the regulator design is like a scissors so be careful! if it makes a thump thump thump sound when it goes up, the rivets have broken off and the gear is misaligned. good luck! |

Yes , I'm sure the window is snagged, I can hear the regulator clickking so I know the power is getting to it. My problem is that I cant remove anything with the window in the up position.

The door panel can be removed by first removing the black plastic cover behing the inner door handle. do this bu prying off the plastic inset with a small screwdriver. then remove the screw carefully being careful it doesn't fall behind the door. now simply pry off the inner panel. access to the regulator is limited. also dont forget the 2 screws on the inner arm rest/handle used to pulll the door shut.

Ive got the panel off the door but how do I get to anything else. If i remove all the mounting bolts it is still stuck because the window is up?

aright dog.. you do not need to remove the regulator since that is a real can of worms, you need to separate the glass from the rail etc... just stick you hand in there grab the ladys makeup mirror , a flash light and take a look see in there see if yu can free it.. even if you fix it be prepared for this to happen again at the worst possible time in the future( in the rain or heat whatever). if it is the regulator you probably have to replace it. i just drilled out my old broken rivets and tapped bolts in there.
