Mystery electrical connector - 1992 190E

Does anyone know where this plug goes? It's behind the cluster on my 1992 190E 2.3 8V.

Ever since I removed the dash to change the heater core, I can't find where it's supposed to go. Everything works fine on the dash, except that the tempmatic unit stopped lighting up (it did before and the bulbs are new). Anyone has a clue?

It goes somewhere behind the dash.... I don't where but it connects on the rear of the instrument cluster

That is the connector from the Tempomat Cruise Control controller, it connects to the rear of the instrument cluster at what is called the "Transmitter" which decodes the speedo drive cable and outputs the electrical signal used by the Tempomat system. Early cars used what's called the L2 module, your later vehicle makes use of a different type of transmitter referred to as the B6 type.

There is another connector that looks the same (2 prongs, but 2 rounded ends instead of one rounded and one squared end), that might be what you're talking about. The cruise control works with that thing unplugged, so this might not be it! There are no vacant connections behind the cluster.
