W124 airconditioning
 
I have a 1989 W124 200, the airconditioner on which has stopped working.There is a ceramic covered resistor(?0 behind the left headlight cluster, the ceramic covering on which has disintegrated. The unit is marked BERU 0110 610 030 . What does this unit do, and could it be the cause?

I believe that would be the Aux fan(the one on the front of the condensor) low speed resistor. If the aux fan doesn't work on low speed, it could effect how well the A/C works, but not keep it from working at all.
