New "Rear Silencer"!
 

Well I just completed another item on the ol' maintenance list. The "rear silencer" was rusting through at the pipe/muffler interface and was time to say 'adios' to what appears to be the original. Doubt the new after-market brand (Bosal) will render anywhere near the 20 years of service as the one it replaces!

Pretty simple job and I was surprised that the clamp bolt/nut came apart by wrenching it after I soaked it with PB Blaster for a little while. I did get a new clamp from the dealership but I could have used the old one however, it was a bit rusty :)

I got tired of waiting for my exhaust to rust out. It simply wasn't happening. So I took off the rear section with the two mufflers and stowed it under the work bench in my garage. It sounds much better now.

everytime i'd build an exhaust, i'd spray them with the bbq paint you can get at wally world or some place that sells spray paint.

So far every exhaust i've done has held up wonderfully to the chicago winters and as an added bonus to looking better, it seems like the stuff keeps the heat "IN" the pipe better than without it... atleast according to my 10 second shot of the pipe with my temp guns. figure i'd mention it if you want to attempt getting a few extra years of that exhaust looking good, rather than crumbling from rust.

I wasn't looking for 'noise' or a louder rumble, I wanted it quiet! Glad it worked out for both of us :D

That's what I thought I'd get to paint it before it gets all mucked up from road stuff.

I don't understand the appeal of quiet, but I'm glad you're happy.

I suppose its like almost every preference in life, we are all different. I've heard it said that the world would be an awfully drab, boring place if everyone's preferences were exactly alike :) Have a joyous day :D

Did the exhaust on Linda's E320 wagon earlier this year.

Finally needed to replace the center and rear muffler that were the original to the car.

Fitted Bosal as well, pretty easy installation.

May not last as long as the factory, but even if I get 1/2 the service, I'll be pleased.

Nice and quiet, just as my wife likes it.
