Rear Diff swap? W201
Can anyone tell me if there is a direct fit alternative rear diff to a W201? I have a 1986 190E diff I cannot seem to source rebuild parts on, so I am looking at exchanging units of known good. Mine had pinion bearings go south and gears are worn badly. If you have one you want to unload, and its quiet (i.e. no gear whine or growl) PM me. Thanks.

There are three different variants to look out for
1) With out ABS 2) With ABS 3) With ASR and ABS Then you need to get the final drive ratio the same as what you have now to make your speedo (at least) work correctly. The final drive ratio is stamped on the casing near to the rear cover. Rebuilding a differential is possible but if the parts are really worn then it is probably cheaper to buy a new one at however many thousands of euros / USD Mercedes wants for one. Finding a non whining W201 / W124 differential is an art! If you want a rebuild thread I can link. |
I have read the thread. It's a very good one. The problem I am having is sourcing parts.

All dealer as far as I am aware. Not the best discount prices...

You could try emailing these guys to see if they have just the parts you need. Otherwise, they offer rebuilds. The freight may be too much, but if you combine it with a trip to South Germany, may not be too bad.
