I have a crack, about 3/4" long, in the windshield of my E320. It is, of course, smack dab in the middle of my field of view. It is not a "bulls-eye" conchoidal fracture, but a more or less straight line. An automotive glass place will charge me $35(CDN) to fill 80-90% of it with their pressurized glue, but will not guarantee me that the pressure will not spread the crack. It would be worth $35 to get rid of the annoying thing, but not if it wrecked the whole windshield. Does anyone have experience with this technique? How often does it spread the crack?

I haven't had this done on my Benz, but on an Acura, three times. It generally works pretty well. Two of the three cracks became almost invisible, with no damage to the windshield. I think they give the warning more as a disclaimer so they won't have to pay for your windshield if it breaks. IMHO, there is greater potential for losing the windshield if you leave it to spread unchecked.

The windsheild specialist we use said if the crack can be covered by a quarter (US currency) it can be safely repaired.
